Missing

As I put my groceries in a cart,
A boy observes the board at Walmart.
The board depicts missing children.
Why does he look?
Why does he stare?
Why does he care?
No one will find them.
They’re lost.
Maybe he knew one,
Or recognized a face.
Perhaps one caught his eye,
Perhaps he just stopped by.
Maybe he’s searching for a brother.
A taken best friend
Or a runaway love.
As he studies the board,
And I study the boy,
He begins to walk away,
Sadness encompassing his face.
And I study the board.
Perhaps I know a face.
