Bench

Bench

Kindness, gentleness, stillness
Sits on a bench
Waiting for nothing

-M.L.Wright

I always pictured my grandpa sitting on a street bench and smiling anytime I read this. It’s one of the shortest poems I’ve ever written, but possibly the most personal and peaceful. I envy the peace of mind on my grandfather’s face, being perceived by myself as being at peace of mind. The fact that apathy, one of my greatest anxieties right next to silence, didn’t seem to bum him out like it did me. I know I can also sit still and not die because he can.
